SLUM goes Wednesday

SLUM celebrates our move to Wednesday nights at Ficken3000 with a live performance by Angel Eyedealism aka Angel Eyecon (NYC) and a DJ set by Dolby Anol!!

ANGEL EYEDEALISM

Bizarre elegance: It's what Angel Eyedealism exemplifies. It's the larger-than-life, drag queen look juxtaposed with the classically trained, five-octave range vocals. It's the intense, emotional, theatrical performance, set to spiraling trip-hop beats. But she is no drag queen. She is a real woman of substance beneath all the charismatic style.

TV CARNAGE

+ "A little Reading/A little Leg," a performance by Travis Steele Sisk

Once Travis Steele Sisk was exiled from West Virginia in 2001, he began his modern dance training at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. In 2006 he attended American Dance Festival under a full scholarship and is currently working with Troika Ranch, a multi-media dance company from Brooklyn. He has performed in the works of choreographers Christoph Winkler, Mariga Maggipinto, Scott Putman, and Ligia Lewis and he has choreographed and presented over a dozen works himself.

+ an evening of TV CARNAGE!

In case you don’t know: Each TV CARNAGE volume is hundreds of hours of exceptionally bad TV lovingly fused together into an hour plus; glorious cesspools of retardation. These are the compilations that have been featured and loved by VICE MAGAZINE, NME, SHARPEWORLD, FORT DRASIC, OK FLAVOR, DAILY CANDY, and shown in festivals and porn theatres throughout North America, Europe and Japan.

Ain't No Sunshine

20 august @Slum

AIN’T NO SUNSHINE
An exhibition by Mario Dzurila and Snax in the dark room of SLUM @ Ficken 3000, Berlin.

What if every sperm supposedly “wasted” in a basement dark room actually had the potential to fertilize and produce human life? Mario Dzurila and Snax would like to introduce you to overlooked offspring, the Children Of The Dark Room, where there Ain’t No Sunshine.
In the morning hours, the floor of a typical dark room can almost amount to what science calls “primordial soup.” Special conditions, such as high humidity, low temperature and lack of light fuse with the chemicals used in lubricants and amyl nitrate, thus prolonging a sperm’s life span from several minutes to several days. The pairing and matching of said sperm results in a cell called the zygote, which replicates half the DNA of each of two or more fathers.
After the birth, children remain in the dark room their entire life. Adaptation to their surroundings comes in a myriad of forms. Retinas expand to catch any small amount of light. In other instances, children emit their own light with bioluminescence - disguising their silhouette. They stay hidden in their underground dark dens through busy barroom hours, never allowing their innocence to disturb wandering patrons and future parents. Socializing only with each other, they are timid and panic easily. Their playground is video and their laughter is digitized.

Mario Dzurila and Snax shed light on these forgotten souls and allow the world to witness this phenomenon for the first time. At last, the children will rule the roost downstairs and the visitors are the ones who will have to be their unseen guests.

Unisondetune at Slum, august 13th

Charlie and Eve N meet each other in March 2008 through MySpace. Their musical duo starts a year later, born from the clash between brit electropop music and dark-eighties rock.

Charlie, a former violinist, is the singer and lyricist of UNISONDETUNE.

Eve N has a ten year long experience in electronic instruments and piano; he has been with synth rock act KubricK for three years, self-producing their latest album "Lost Diary of a Goth Girl".

The duo is working on the debut album, while shooting the video for the groovy single "Alive" and taking their first creations on stage: in occasion of the Berlin event, the band is premiering a fresh-from-the-mixer, alternate rock version of "Alive".

Gaby Bila-Günther

Gaby Bila-Günther is a young writer who has been labeled ‘oddly poetic’ and ‘flamboyant and upbeat’ by The Age newspaper in Melbourne, Australia (where she was based between 1995-2002); and labeled 'provocative' by The Pill paper in Prague, Czech Republic.

Gaby Bila-Günther, originally from Romania, arrived in Berlin via Melbourne where she would regularly perform her poetry in laundromats, beauty parlors, elevators, and trams. Her tales stretch from the primitive paths of Eastern Europe where her encounters with gypsies are true memoirs, to the shores of inner cities where her anger about urban decline is fairly potent. Widely published, her spoken-word, poetry, short stories and nonfiction articles have appeared in journals, CD compilations, magazines and literature anthologies in Australia, Germany and England. As a radio journalist she conducted interviews for Melbourne’s community radio, 3CR's Accent of Women, a show about multicultural women’s issues. Since 1999 she began responding to her urban and cultural environment with photos, postcards and zines layered by text and poetry. In 1998 she graduated with a Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing at the Holmesglen Institute of Art & Technology in Melbourne, Australia.

She has been a member of urbanart since 2001, and co-founder of Flush artists’ group, who spontaneously perform their work in public spaces such as lifts, launderettes, train platforms and moving trams. She has performed and showed text based works in Australia, Germany, Austria, Sweden and Czech Republic. In 2000 on a ‘moving tram’ she launched her self-published book Validate & Travel, poems about tram travels and in 2002 her own spoken word filled with ambient techno beats debut CD, Off the Main together with music producer ZOG. Recently together with fellow writer Jessica Falzoi she formed the Poets’ Party, site specific performances where spoken-words meet every other artistic medium.

Master Patrick

Their project is rappresented by the Changingrole gallery.

Tennessee Claflin

Tennessee Claflin was born in Boise, Idaho and spent most of his young life in Salt Lake City before moving to Los Angeles at the age of seventeen. Today he is a Berlin based writer, activist & performance artist having lived and worked in several other cities around the world including New York, Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Istanbul, Madrid and Portland, Oregon.

. The name Tennessee Claflin is borrowed from a real-life familial ancestor, a rumored sex worker and radical suffragette who eventually married into royalty. That there are numerous parallels with our modern-day Claflin in this mythic story is undeniable

An·nounce·ment

The creators of PORK are pleased to announce the creation of an exciting new nightlife concept for Berlin. Beginning on August 6th, every Thursday night, Ficken3000 will be transformed into SLUM.

SLUM aims to unite all of Berlin’s disparate artistic, sexual, and nocturnal subcultures under a single roof. In the tradition of Zurich’s Cabaret Voltaire, New York’s Jackie 60, and LA’s Club Sucker, SLUM will serve as both a party and a venue for cutting-edge performers and artists looking to transcend boundaries.

Each Thursday, artists will transform Ficken3000’s cavernous darkroom into a performance lounge, where artists, writers, and musicians from Berlin and abroad will present one-off projects responding to the unique properties of the space. On the video monitors, we will show video art and experimental film. Upstairs on the main dance floor, a revolving cast of resident guest DJs will spin rock, electro, noise, and avant-garde weirdness.

Our first month’s resident DJ will be Dustcake. The schedule of performers for August will be announced shortly.

SLUM is curated by performance artist Tennessee Claflin and writer Travis Jeppesen. For more information, contact us at travis.jeppesen@gmail.com or mapsofmars@hotmail.com.
